Chao Pinhole Technique

Dr. Miyamoto of Miyamoto Dental Design Suite Inc. in Wailuku, HI is proud to offer our patients access to one of the most innovative treatments for gum recession, the Chao Pinhole Technique. Also known as PST or Pinhole Gum Rejuvenation (PGR), it is a remarkable option in the world of restorative dentist treatments.

What Is the Chao Pinhole Technique?

To understand the Chao Pinhole Technique best, you need to understand just what it can treat. The conditions that this technology can repair or address includes gum recession due to:

    • Periodontal disease
    • Aging
    • Flawed tooth brushing technique

Before and After Photos of Chao Pinhole Technique

Gum recession is a serious problem because it means that your gum tissue is moving away from the tooth and continually exposing more of the root. This is tooth material that had been previously protected by the gums, and not as easily exposed to decay or damage. As the gum recedes, you may experience heightened sensitivity, but you may also begin to experience bone loss.

The Chao Pinhole Technique is as minimally invasive as its name implies. It does not require any incisions or sutures, instead, a tiny instrument is used to pierce the existing gum and then to readjust and realign the tissue to cover the exposed tooth or root structure.

Apart from the less invasive methods, this procedure is also preferred because it eliminates the need for grafting tissue from other parts of the mouth. It is much less painful, heals faster, and is a proven technique with long-lasting benefits.

Traditionally, you would visit our dentist office for gum recession treatment and require a piece of the patient’s palate to be sutured to the receding gum tissue, and then a very lengthy and uncomfortable period of healing would follow.

Periodontics is an important part of the work we do in our dental office, and the Chao Pinhole Technique provides us with the means of offering patients a much better method for overcoming problems that arise from gingivitis or advanced periodontal disease.

In addition to handling gum recession, we offer an enormous range of treatments meant to preserve the health and wellness of your jaw and gum. Periodontal dentistry is focused on treating anything that jeopardizes key support structures to the teeth, and is why we also offer crown lengthening, scaling and root planing, and pocket irrigation or reduction surgery.

Whether you learn that you have moderate to advanced gum disease, localized gum recession or multiple issues relating to periodontal disease, we have the advanced treatments readily available. We also encourage you to book bi-annual cleanings and exams in order to address any signs of gum disease immediately.
